Pawtucket Animal Shelter is a municipal animal shelter located in SlaterPark in
the City of Pawtucket, RI. Our shelter provides temporary care and housing for
stray and/or abandoned animals found in our city.
Visit the shelter and
select the animal that is right for you. After you select an animal, there is a
brief application to fill out. Once that is complete, an adoption counselor or
animal...
control officer will discuss with you the laws and requirements of the
adoption.
NOTE: The State of RI has passed a law that requires animal
shelters to spay / neuter an animal BEFORE it is adopted from a shelter. (Unless
it is too young at the time of adoption or medically excluded from having the
surgery)
In addition to our $15.00 adoption fee, we are now required to
charge a spay / neuter fee to cover the cost of this surgery. The fee will range
from $65.00 - $175.00 depending of the type of animal, gender, weight, and the
veterinarian used. The animal will receive an examination, distemper and rabies
vaccination (1 yr), and spayed / neuter surgery prior to the adoption. If the
animal is too young for surgery at the time of adoption, the fees are still
collected, a surgery appointment is made for you and the fee is passed along to
the veterinarian at the time of surgery.
IMPORTANT: Please be
sure of your adoption selection as ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. The spay /
neuter fees are forwarded to our participating veterinarians for services
provided.
*You must bring a photo identification with correct
address in order to process the adoption.
*You must be at least
21 years old to adopt an animal.
*You must have the homeowners
permission to have a pet in the home.
You will be required to sign some
additional forms documenting that you understand and agree to abide by the laws
and adoption regulations. (The adoption process takes approximately 15 - 20
minutes)
